Leah Pratt | Journey to Godly

New. Year's. Resolutions.

Some people make 'em; some people don't. Some people stick to 'em; some people don't.

Wait. Virtually no one actually sticks to 'em...at least, not not for the entire new year! I can't even begin to list all the ways I have failed in the past at keeping these January-fresh plates spinning!

Why is this? Well, a lot of the reasoning can be attributed to the fact that we are all striving in our own strength and willpower toward some preposterously huge goal that we quite possibly could never attain.

For a few weeks now, my pastor has been preaching a sermon series based on the letters to the churches in Revelation.  Yesterday, the sermon's focus was on the letter written to the church at Pergamum (Rev 2:12-17).  The people of that city were participating in idol worship, sexual deviance, and the like.  And the church was coming right alongside - jumping straight into the fires of sin like all the rest.  In short, the letter was a harsh rebuke to a community of professing believers who were living anything-but-Christlike lifestyles.
